Natural Beta Carotene
Natural Beta Carotene is distinct from synthetic beta carotene in that it is derived
from a food source such as D. salina sea algae. Natural Beta Carotene from this source also contain additional antioxidant carotenoids Lutein and Zeaxanthin, and natural alpha-carotene. Increasingly, doctors are recommending that people supplement only with natural beta-carotene rather than synthetic beta-carotene
Natural Beta-Carotene is a fat soluble
carotenoid which the body converts into Vitamin A*,
and is considered the safest form of vitamin A because it's non-toxic.
Natural beta carotene acts as an antioxidant and an immune system booster.
Natural beta carotene & Eye Health: Natural beta carotene may help prevent night blindness,
sensitivity to sunlight & erythropoietic protoporphyria (EPP). Protects against UV light damage to the eye, including macular degneration,
especially in conjunction with Lutein
Natural Beta Carotene & Skin Health/Sunburn: Natural Beta Carotene's antioxidant action operates inside the body tissues as well as on the skin's surface as shown by studies of UV exposure to protect against sunburn. One controlled study found that taking a supplement of natural beta-carotene in daily amounts of 30 mg, 60 mg, and 90 mg gave progressively more protection against ultraviolet rays. In another controlled study, either 24 mg per day of natural beta-carotene or 24 mg per day of a carotenoid combination of equal amounts beta-carotene, lutein, and lycopene helped protect skin from ultraviolet rays.
*Note: Taking a nutritional supplement containing carotenoids is not the same as taking vitamin A. High amounts of vitamin A can lead to toxicity, whereas carotenoids are nontoxic, even when taken in large quantities.
